United Nations To Investigate Hack After Over 100 Credential Leaked
Thu 01 Dec, 2011 // Chris Allan
The United Nations have been hacked, leaving over 100 of it's email addresses, user names, and passwords visible to the public after being posted on the web-sharing application PasteBin. The hacker group TeaMp0isoN have since claimed responsibility.
TeaMpoisoN are also known for hacking Research In Motion's (RIM) official BlackBerry blog in August, after the company announced it would be supporting the police investigations into the London riots. The hacker group believe that the UN is “a senate for global corruption” and “sits to facilitate the introduction of a New World Order and one world government.”
It is believed that the hackers gained access through a vulnerability in the UN website. The details leaked by TeaMp0isoN are said to belong to individuals at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), UNICEF, World Health Organisation (WHO), and many others.
A spokesperson for the UNDP, Sausan Ghosheh, confirmed that it was an old server that dated back to 2007, and contained old data that has now been taken offline.
Ghosheh also confirmed that there were no active passwords on the list provided by the hacker group.
This comes as a warning to many other organisations as TeaMp0isoN recently announced it's collaboration with the other well known hacktivist group Anonymous on a mission dubbed 'Operation Robin Hood'. The aim of the mission is to target banks and financial institutions.
